ONLY WHEN PEOPLE, COMMUNITIES AND ORGANIZATIONS COME TOGETHER AND JOIN FORCES, CHANGE FROM THE BOTTOM BECOMES POSSIBLE.

Founded in 2016 and currently hosted by Adeso, NEAR is a movement of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) from the global south who share a common goal of promoting fair, equitable and dignified partnerships in the current aid system. NEAR’s vision is to ensure genuine local participation at all levels of development and disaster management, and that effective aid is delivered to people in need. To date, NEAR has over 220 grassroots organizations members from Asia, Africa, Middle East and soon Latin America and the Pacific. NEAR’s work focuses on 4 thematic areas – Advocacy, Financing, Organizational Development and Research.

NEAR is a key output of Adeso’s efforts to transform the current humanitarian and development ecosystem towards a system in which civil society is effectively resourced to lead a local response and fight back against the shrinking space for autonomous and independent action.
