REGAL-IR Vocational trainee graduation ceremony

More than thirty students from Isiolo County received a certificate after completing a three-month vocational training course at St. Joseph Polytechnic.

A graduation ceremony was held on 23rd September 2015 at the Polytechnic grounds in the presence of key County Stakeholders among them PREG partners (REGAL-IR, REGAL-AG, Aphia-Plus, FHK), NDMA Coordinator Isiolo County, and the County Government Chief Officer for Education and Vocational Training who was the Chief Guest.

The courses have been offered as part of REGAL-IR livelihoods diversification strategy which includes skills development. This initiative is funded by USAID and the Feed the Future Initiative (FtF) in northern Kenya aimed at building resilience for pastoral and transitioning communities by  increasing their livelihood options.  This Vocational skills training project was launched in July 2015  in partnership with the St. Joseph Polytechnic of Isiolo Catholic Diocese  as well as the Ministry of Education and Vocational training.

“To expand access to entrepreneurship development and employment, these graduates will use these skills in securing productive livelihood activities which is the key to deliver inclusive growth for our communities” said Amina Gamadid (County Government Chief Officer for Education and vocational training) while congratulating the students and praising this initiative.

The new graduates have acquired vocational skills in various sectors such as carpentry, tailoring and dress making, beauty and hair dressing, and should be ideally placed in satisfying the increasing demand for these services in Isiolo County and neighboring town.
